Can anyone shed some light on the current swollen leg virus going around, my horses is now the 6th horse at our yard to get this, seems to affect the tendon of the leg and lasts a few days? Any advice appreciated. Katie |

If you are not part of THE “click” at WPHS or on one of the self-serving committees (committees that do not particularly serve the interest of their members, but rather the interest of their own agendas and officials) – then you are most certainly considered as one of the “nuisance” members and is to be thoroughly bad mouthed by the aforementioned. So beware of competitive riding, maybe consider the value of enjoying your horse, fun shows and good company instead. Thanks to Horseweb giving us non-competitive riders this open forum. LoL |

To R - Please put your complaints, issues, questions etc. in an e-mail and drop them to the secretary requesting that they be tabled at the next committee meeting - after all the committee can only react on what they hear and it is OUR club and it is the responsibility of every member to help make the club something that the members would want to support. The committee is elected by the club members and are given the mandate to run the club on behalf of the members and they are unable to do this without input from the members. Please give the committee the oppertunity to address and respond to the issues. Your input would be very valuable. Thanks. |

To kelly - Please come and introduce yourself to a committee member, it would be lovely to have some more members offering their services and time to assist with the running of OUR club. I am unable to contact you directly as I cannot find a Kelly in the 2009 membership list - u must be part of a family membership. |

Sorry Deanne, I know you have nothing to do with CHPC anymore, but you are always so approachable. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort to contact them. Thanks again for this amazing website R |

Please send your comments directly to CHPC. If you say their phones are never answered, try their email address? Deanne |

I am a CHPC member and was very excited to see All Stars rising. What happened? I have read the other comments! Kick the lazy woman off and get that amazing team back. Now it is left to Clair who is 9 months pregnant to run proper shows at CHPC? Will seriously have to rethink my membership there, but then I will probably be able to buy a house there soon!..... Kelly |

The difference between a show held by outsiders – Camelot – and a so called Graded event is like comparing Oranges with Lemons. Well done Clair! R |

Hey De did you see the mess CHPC has for a website now? Nico |

We are not complaining about what she does --- just what she doesn't do – she should get of the board and make way for some one who can. If you can’t do a job, step down and let someone who has the heart and love of the club do it. Sue (please note that unlike the coward below I put my name here) |

some people should keep their comments to thereselves and not single out certain members of certain commities....I think Tessa Visser is doing an amazing job at what she does....she manages to run a full livery yard, be an outstanding instructor, work a full day jobs and raises 2 children..and to think with all of this she still manages to be a commity member that is in charge of ALL STARS..let me just say som of u complain about her way of doing things but not many of u can do half of what she does...-anonomys |

Thank you SDRC and Di for the amazing Eventing this weekend. My daughter really enjoyed herself. It was her first eventing show and I think she is hooked. What an amazing venue and an all round friendly experience. |

Had a wonderful hunt this Sunday. Was amazing to see Vere Allin and his wife hunting again. See you all at the hunt ball. |

It would be appreciated if any member or person who wants to make a comment about the running of the club should please address the complaint or comment directly to the Eecutive commitee of CHPC via the club secretary instead of making anonymouse allegations that cannot be responded to in the correct manner. Any comments thus placed on non CHPC website cannot be taken as serious until such time as a person makes these comments and complaints in such a way that they can be answered to. Surely it is only fair that CHPC be given the opportunity to respond??? |

I did my first hunt at the ostrich ranch and there were about 70 riders - so the hunting seems to be doing well...... |

Thank you so much – I have finally found a place where all the shows and equestrian events are advertised. The Cape seems to be very secretive about their events. Thank you very much for an amazingly efficient website. Amanda |

Why does WPHS not have a comment line? are they worried about what people might say? Jenny |
| Wed, 26 Aug 2009 |
There is a CHPC Web Site - www.capehuntpoloclub.co.za - or email your comments to them on chpc@telkomsa.net - and WPHS also has a web site... it is www.wphs.co.za - now posting your comments on to them might even get you in the News Reveiw... he he he - You Never Know You Might Make a Difference..... Miracles do sometimes happen. Deanne |

WPHS Membership fees covered costs of News Review in the past - sent out printed and often "old hat" info. But at least it could lie around for all to read ....Now we get it on a web site, which takes ages to download and is STILL old hat news... Doubt whether there is any real saving done this way, so at the end of the day - we the members are being side stepped, ignored and kept as mushrooms with regards to getting out a successful News Review ON TIME. |

Maybe the CHPC executive should get off it's collective behind and insist that sections become active and contribute to the well being of the ridden sport, instead of running a club to pay salaries and have nothing for the members. Not to mention positively be nasty to it's own members! What a shame, that due to the economy the equestrian world is taking strange, but here is CHPC doing NOTHING to contain the situation. The Hunt runs with small fields, Polo is all but non-existent, Polo X is struggling as they always have, Danielle's section SJ/Dr has little to show for itself, except for very late running classes.... and now the All Stars have become defunct. Only thing that works at CHPC is the staff running the functions and bar! If this is what I pay membership for? |

Just looked at the WPNews Review that show was held at NRA SATURDAY 18th & SUNDAY 19th JULY 2009 Deanne |
| Mon, 24 Aug 2009 |
I have just sat for 20 minutes while the WP News Review downloaded in PDF format. What a waste of time. As usual Results do not have any dates – so for what show they were is a mystery – well I do know that it was Showjumping at NRA? Most of the information in the News Review has been on various websites for the past Month? What a waste of time and money. I’m pleased I’m not paying for it. (ex – wphs member) |

Deanne that is the funniest, sarcastic picture I have seen in a while… you should do satire cartoons! Sam |

Tessa Visser has always been the "figure Head" so that she can sit on the CHPC Executive Committee, supposedly representing All Stars interests...maybe she should have referred to herself as the "Tomb Stone" Head for All Stars? Sad, sad, sad. CHPC should pull itself together and get real and start using the member's facilities for what they were intended i.e. having ridden sports events! |
| Mon, 17 Aug 2009 |
Who is Tessa Visser? I thought Lesley Ran All Stars? (anon) |
| Mon, 17 Aug 2009 |
Has All Stars really died? What a pity!!! I thought it was a wonderful way to learn about ‘Horsy Stuff’ – did my first ever ‘boxed to’ show at Cape Hunt All Stars and had such fun doing the Games with Camelot. Watched Polo X….. Please don’t let it die Tessa!!!! |
| Mon, 17 Aug 2009 |
Lol ! Real sssttrraannggee that we use this site for open debate on horsey affairs... all due to the patriarchrol and uptight reactions one gets from the WPHS representatives, I suppose! All goes back to the old quip - " we get the LEADERS we deserve!" |

Fri, 10 July response below: Buy a round? What is the point of this, when one cannot tell who is "selling" an entry.... no announcements are made or notices posted ... so it is really all down to word of mouth, or if the officials on duty care! This rule does not address the ultimate need to have more flexibility within graded show entries. Giving flexibility will not effect prize money rule, if the overall show prize money is worked out a little above the minimum 40% in the first place. Prize money at graded shows is not what people ride for, although it is great when it covers your entry fee for the ones that are in a line up! |
| Fri, 14 Aug 2009 |
Wonder how many of us can afford boxing to shows/events opposed to having practice shows/events organized in your own area, so that one can enjoy a bit of fun competition and show experience both for horse and rider, made regularly available? Milnerton area - Waterloo/Milnerton riding Club/ Morningstar? Stellenbosch/SDRC only? Gordons Bay? Joostenbergvlakte/Polperro ? ?. Please somebody compile a Fun show calendar for 2010! |
| Thu, 13 Aug 2009 |
I agree 100% - new show levies – new rules – like having a vet give your flue vac – totally ridiculous and becoming exuberantly expensive. And now the sport is truly an Elitist sport – favoring those with money and not those with talent. Let’s support the Practice shows more. Well done Horseweb-sa for making such an effort to represent all equestrian sports. Thank you again. Lorna |

To ride competitively at local levels, let alone try to obtain colours in any discipline cost wise has become a joke ! You pay WPHS membership, you pay horse membership, you pay different club membership or alternatively pay R90 or more ground levies per horse, you pay entry money (1/2 classes @ approx R90 per class), then you still pay officials/medical fees (i.e. in terms of SANEF rules - their "qualified" officials and very necessary medic to be on duty), then of course there is the cost of towing to the show, and your own catering - this all adds up to become out of reach for the average rider paying livery between R2000 and R3500 ! At the end of the day the show holding bodies are struggling, riders are struggling, but of course whose costs are always covered and rules the roost - your very own SANEF/WPHS assositation. So lets not complain and enjoy the ride as long as you are priveleged enough to be able to afford it ! |

Refer to query on fairness of schedules to accommodate the following: "Grading Rules - Adult & Junior competitors registered in the NOVICE / MEDIUM / OPEN level may jump any height in the NOVICE / MEDIUM / OPEN level competitively. Should you wish to change height classes on the day, it will only be allowed should you be able to buy an entry, otherwise the change will be classified as an HC round." |

Selling a Horse? When is the Seller deemed to be a DEALER opposed to a genuine Seller of their horse? I am so tired of the same person always selling horses with the story of - "given -up riding"/ "studying at the moment" etc. etc. However, the same person is "bring-on and selling horses" over a number of years. At least with A DEALER you are under no illusions of his professional status .... |
| Fri, 10 Jul 2009 |
Show Jumping - why in the graded rules we are offered the opportunity to jump anywhere in our registered class i.e. Novice - BUT, the show schedules on offer have the 80/90/1.00m range split over 2 days? Surely these riders are being compromised & at a "grass roots" level, is it fair not to be considered worth enough to run the range choice on the same day, by the SJ WPHS Committee? Does anybody else feel compromised? |

I really love the way you colour coded the Goerge Program. Your site is really colourfull and I have noticed how much care you take in producing interesting entry forms and show information. A work or art. Keep it up Thanks Ann B |

I have just downloaded the June News Review. Someone should teach whoever is compiling it to resize the photos, maybe in that way they could make the file smaller and therefore easier to download. Suzan K |

The Western Province Website is a joke – probably costing us WP member a fortune – and I never ever go there. It is always out of date, never has any relevant information, and just boring to navigate. We compete almost every weekend, and have been using Horseweb-sa for almost a year. Thank you very much. Do people realise that Rollkur gets its name from a German word which literally means rolling around to try to get rid of a stomach ache!! That sort of sums the whole idea up really. Hijmne is quite right. The "Quick Fix" methods, especially in the wrong hands are rarely the long term answer. Anita |

Hi Deanne Thanks for posting my note on your website and thanks also for putting the extra information on there. I really appreciate it. I recently moved to Belgium (lived in West before) and I have also bought a four year old horse here that I plan on taking to the Young Horse Competitions in the near future. It is absolutely shocking to see how many trainers and riders here and especially in Holland uses the “rollkur” method. Luckily there are also some good trainers that seek the truth and want their horses to stay sound and happy. I think it is extremely important to educate yourself, and only then can you make informed decisions. That is why I felt I had to bring this book to the attention of riders in SA. I have just ordered the DVD, which is based on the book and should there be an interest, I will bring it along to SA ( Somerset West) when I come down in July and perhaps we can have a discussion evening or something like that. There is no need to try and reinvent the wheel, the classical way of training by using the German training scale has proved to work and it produces, strong, happy, obedient and above all, sound, horses. Kind regards Hijmne Jordan [mailto:hijmnejordan@gmail.com] |
